The PhenoCam Network: An ecosystem phenology web camera network

Hi there,

when looking for Python support for raw data acquisition from the DWD FTP server the other day (see also Open weather data - #20 by Andreas and Phänologischer Kalender für Trachtpflanzen), we stumbled across another sweet project out there:

The PhenoCam Network is a project designed to study the patterns of seasonal variation (phenology) of vegetation. […] The network consists of many cameras collecting images of various types of vegetation. By analysing the images we can quantify the seasonal changes at a particular camera site.

The project website is at https://phenocam.sr.unh.edu/ and it is accompanied by the vegindex program written in Python. “vegindex” contains Python tools for generating vegetation index timeseries from PhenoCam images, it is also available on GitHub and seems to feature a thorough documentation.

Enjoy reading about it!
