The problem is that this system has too many components. One module for data collection in the hive and another for transmitting data from the scale via BT. All the data then goes to a collector, which sends it to the cloud.
What I am looking for is a small IoT out-of-the-box-solution that is ready to use. Unpack, insert SIM card, install software, connect components (load cell, battery), calibrate and fire. Do you understand what I mean? (Yes, I know, there are things out there for a lot of money …)

In my experience, a scale with “double load-cells” and a new Thingy:91X will be about 270 Euro. At least I don’t consider to spend time into making that cheaper.
In order to report the weights quite frequently (every 30 or 60 minutes) from battery (1350 mAh LiPo or 2000 mAh NiMH or LiPo) over a couple of months upto a year, it uses UDP (CoAP/DTLS 1.2 CID).
